Blueberry farm
The
South African Blueberry Company is located in Franschhoek South Africa, the
heart of Africa's wine producing area. Though wine grapes are grown, our
specialty is export blueberries, grown in the southern hemisphere, which make
them available from mid October for three weeks, or weeks 42 - 44. For commercial purposes, the South African Blueberry Company concentrates on vacinnium ashei, or Southern rabbiteye's. Rabbiteye's get their name from the flower mark or calyx, which resembles the eye of the rabbit. We only grow the O'Neal blueberry rabbiteye variety on the blueberry farm. It is a slow grower, but it fruits at an opportune moment for the northern hemisphere market. They are not only larger than other early varieties, but are sweeter, leaving a delightful residual tartness. Our brief harvest period makes the South African Blueberry Company important to importers. Live longer: Eat Blueberries !Recent studies are hailing blueberries as the reigning king of antioxidants, disease fighters that also help slow down the outward and inward effects of ageing. Blueberry's have the highest overall antioxidant score of some 40 fresh fruits, juices and vegetables tested. Antioxidants help neutralize harmful free radical damage that can lead to cancer and other age related diseases. Visit the blueberry farm
